Senior Land Surveyor

Our client, a well-established Southern California consulting firm, is seeking a Senior Land Surveyor to support and lead a variety of surveying and mapping projects throughout the region. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced California-licensed surveyor who enjoys both technical project delivery and leadership responsibilities.

The successful candidate will play a key role in survey operations, managing projects ranging from commercial and site development projects to large-scale residential communities, while mentoring junior staff and supporting continued growth of the surveying practice.

Qualifications

  • Active California Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license required.
  • 10+ years of land surveying experience with a strong focus on boundary, topographic, and construction surveying throughout Southern California.
  • 5+ years of project leadership, supervisory, or management experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent professional experience will be considered.
  • Expert understanding of California land surveying principles, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Strong working knowledge of the California Subdivision Map Act, tract maps, parcel maps, and land development processes.
  • Experience utilizing modern surveying technologies, including GPS/GNSS, robotic total stations, data collectors, drones, and surveying software.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly related to boundary analysis and retracement.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and mentoring abilities.
  • Proven ability to manage client relationships and collaborate effectively with engineers, contractors, developers, and public agencies.

Role Expectations & Duties

  • Lead and oversee boundary, topographic, ALTA, construction, and mapping projects from initiation through completion.
  • Provide technical direction and quality control for survey deliverables, including legal descriptions, plats, maps, and survey reports.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, staffing, and resources to ensure successful project execution.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, contractors, utility companies, and regulatory agencies.
  • Review, sign, and certify surveying documents in accordance with California regulations and professional standards.
  • Mentor and develop junior surveyors, field crews, and technical staff.
  • Support proposal preparation, project pursuits, and business development initiatives.
  • Maintain strong client relationships and serve as a trusted advisor on surveying-related matters.
  • Resolve complex surveying and boundary issues through research, analysis, and professional judgment.
  • Contribute to the continued growth and success of the surveying practice through leadership, technical excellence, and exceptional client service.
