About the Opportunity

A growing employee-owned engineering consulting firm is seeking a Senior Project Manager - Aviation Engineering to lead and expand its aviation practice. This leadership position offers the opportunity to oversee complex airport planning and design projects, strengthen client relationships, drive business development efforts, and mentor engineering staff while helping shape the firm's long-term aviation strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development

  • Develop and maintain relationships with airport authorities, municipalities, state agencies, and aviation stakeholders.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities within assigned regions.
  • Lead client meetings, presentations, and project pursuits.
  • Support proposal development, scope creation, fee estimates, and contract negotiations.
  • Track opportunities and client engagement activities through CRM systems.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to position the firm for continued market growth.

Project & Team Management

  • Manage aviation engineering projects from planning through construction.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and to client expectations.
  • Oversee project financial performance, resource allocation, and risk management.
  • Mentor and develop engineers and technical staff.
  • Foster collaboration across offices and disciplines.
  • Coordinate quality control reviews and maintain high technical standards.
  • Support strategic growth initiatives for the aviation practice.

Technical Leadership

  • Serve as the lead technical resource on airport and airfield engineering projects.
  • Direct the development of engineering designs, specifications, construction documents, and cost estimates.
  • Manage project scopes, budgets, schedules, and change management processes.
  • Ensure compliance with FAA design criteria, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Provide senior-level review of engineering deliverables and technical reports.
  • Support bidding activities and provide construction administration services.
  • Conduct site visits and coordinate with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies throughout project delivery.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • 10+ years of aviation engineering experience with significant airside design expertise.
  • Strong understanding of FAA regulations, criteria, and airport design standards.
  • Demonstrated success managing aviation projects, client relationships, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience developing proposals, scopes of work, fee estimates, and project budgets.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.

Preferred

  • Ability to obtain PE licensure in multiple states.
  • Experience growing client accounts and leading regional business development initiatives.
  • Proven track record mentoring engineers and building high-performing teams.
