Transportation Design Engineer

Our client, an established employee-owned engineering consulting firm is seeking a Transportation Design Engineer to join its growing transportation team. This position offers the opportunity to lead and deliver a variety of roadway and transportation infrastructure projects for state and local agencies while playing a key role in mentoring staff and supporting client relationships.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with UDOT projects, a strong background in roadway design, and advanced proficiency with MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and delivery of transportation and roadway projects from planning through final design.
  • Prepare engineering plans, specifications, cost estimates, and technical reports.
  • Develop roadway alignments, intersection improvements, corridor designs, and related transportation infrastructure.
  • Coordinate with clients, agencies, utility providers, and project stakeholders.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and technical deliverables.
  • Review engineering calculations, design documents, and construction plans.
  • Ensure compliance with UDOT standards, policies, and design requirements.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support staff development.
  • Participate in proposal development and client relationship management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 8+ years of transportation engineering experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Strong experience working on UDOT transportation projects.
  • Advanced proficiency with MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer.
  • Experience with roadway geometric design, plan production, and transportation project delivery.
  • Strong understanding of UDOT standards, specifications, and permitting requirements.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Experience

  • Project management experience on transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Experience working with municipalities, counties, and public agencies throughout Utah.
  • Familiarity with roadway drainage coordination, utility relocations, and construction administration.
  • Proven ability to mentor engineering staff and lead technical teams.
