Transportation Design Engineer
Our client, an established employee-owned engineering consulting firm is seeking a Transportation Design Engineer to join its growing transportation team. This position offers the opportunity to lead and deliver a variety of roadway and transportation infrastructure projects for state and local agencies while playing a key role in mentoring staff and supporting client relationships.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with UDOT projects, a strong background in roadway design, and advanced proficiency with MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of transportation and roadway projects from planning through final design.
- Prepare engineering plans, specifications, cost estimates, and technical reports.
- Develop roadway alignments, intersection improvements, corridor designs, and related transportation infrastructure.
- Coordinate with clients, agencies, utility providers, and project stakeholders.
- Manage project schedules, budgets, and technical deliverables.
- Review engineering calculations, design documents, and construction plans.
- Ensure compliance with UDOT standards, policies, and design requirements.
- Mentor junior engineers and support staff development.
- Participate in proposal development and client relationship management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
- 8+ years of transportation engineering experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Strong experience working on UDOT transportation projects.
- Advanced proficiency with MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer.
- Experience with roadway geometric design, plan production, and transportation project delivery.
- Strong understanding of UDOT standards, specifications, and permitting requirements.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Experience
- Project management experience on transportation infrastructure projects.
- Experience working with municipalities, counties, and public agencies throughout Utah.
- Familiarity with roadway drainage coordination, utility relocations, and construction administration.
- Proven ability to mentor engineering staff and lead technical teams.
