Transportation Engineer II

About the Opportunity

A growing, employee-focused engineering consulting firm is seeking a Transportation Engineer II to support the planning, design, and delivery of transportation infrastructure projects throughout Colorado. This position offers the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of projects for state DOTs, municipalities, counties, and regional agencies, helping improve mobility, safety, and connectivity across the region.

This role is ideal for an engineer with a solid technical foundation who is looking to take on greater design responsibilities, gain additional agency coordination experience, and continue progressing toward PE licensure.

Responsibilities

• Collect, compile, and analyze project data, including survey information, traffic studies, utility investigations, GIS data, and geotechnical reports.
• Support the planning and design of roadway, highway, multimodal, and transportation rehabilitation projects.
• Prepare engineering designs in accordance with applicable state, local, and federal design standards.
• Assist with geometric roadway design, drainage considerations, traffic control planning, and corridor improvement projects.
• Develop technical reports, calculations, specifications, quantities, and construction documentation.
• Support the preparation of Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E) packages.
• Coordinate with clients, regulatory agencies, utility providers, and project stakeholders throughout project delivery.
• Participate in quality control reviews, constructability evaluations, and risk assessments.
• Conduct field visits, site investigations, and construction observation activities as needed.
• Contribute to sustainable, resilient, and innovative transportation solutions.
• Ensure compliance with company quality standards, project requirements, and safety protocols.

Qualifications

Education & Credentials

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Passed Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam required.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred.
• 1-5 years of transportation engineering experience.
• Actively pursuing Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.

Technical Skills

• Familiarity with DOT design manuals, roadway design standards, and transportation engineering best practices.
• Working knowledge of AASHTO design criteria.
• Experience with Civil 3D, MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, or similar transportation design software.
• Understanding of permitting processes, utility coordination, and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Experience preparing engineering plans, specifications, and technical documentation preferred.

Work Environment

• Full-time position (40 hours per week)
• Approximately 70% office / 30% field work
• Occasional travel based on project requirements
• Hybrid flexibility may be available depending on project and team needs
