Overview
A growing federal construction contractor is seeking an experienced Traveling Superintendent to oversee healthcare renovation and modernization projects at VA Medical Centers nationwide. This role will focus on complex construction projects supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs' Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM) program, helping upgrade hospital facilities to accommodate advanced electronic medical charting systems and new healthcare technologies.
Projects are typically valued between $20M-$60M and involve phased renovations, infrastructure upgrades, MEP modifications, and work within active healthcare environments.
Responsibilities
- Lead daily field operations for federal healthcare construction projects.
- Manage subcontractors, site logistics, scheduling, quality control, and safety performance.
- Coordinate construction activities in occupied hospital environments while minimizing disruption to facility operations.
- Ensure work is performed in compliance with contract documents, federal regulations, project schedules, and quality standards.
- Collaborate with Project Managers, Owners, facility personnel, designers, and trade partners throughout project execution.
- Conduct subcontractor coordination meetings, weekly progress meetings, and schedule reviews.
- Monitor project milestones and proactively address field challenges to maintain schedule and budget objectives.
- Coordinate inspections, testing, commissioning activities, and project closeout requirements.
- Maintain daily reports, project documentation, and progress records.
- Enforce site safety requirements and promote a culture of safety excellence.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of Superintendent experience with a general contractor.
- Strong experience delivering federal construction projects, preferably for agencies such as the VA, USACE, NAVFAC, or DoD.
- Healthcare construction experience strongly preferred.
- Experience managing projects in the $20M-$60M range.
- Knowledge of healthcare facility renovation, MEP systems, phasing plans, infection control requirements, and occupied-space construction.
- Ability to manage multiple subcontractors and coordinate complex project schedules.
- Proficiency with construction scheduling and project management software.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to travel full-time to project locations throughout the United States.

- VA Medical Center renovation or modernization projects.
- Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM) projects.
- Hospital infrastructure upgrades, medical facility renovations, and technology-focused healthcare projects.
- Experience working in secure, occupied, or mission-critical federal facilities.
- OSHA 30 certification and EM 385-1-1 familiarity.
