Wastewater Treatment Senior Project Manager

Location: Northern Virginia / Washington, DC Area (Remote options available across Maryland and Virginia)

Our client is seeking a Wastewater Treatment Senior Project Manager to join a growing Mid-Atlantic wastewater practice. This is a leadership opportunity for a licensed Professional Engineer with 15+ years of experience delivering wastewater treatment projects and building long-term client relationships across Virginia, Maryland, and the greater Washington DC region.

The successful candidate will play a key role in managing major wastewater treatment planning, design, upgrade, and rehabilitation projects for municipal utility clients throughout the Mid-Atlantic. This position offers the opportunity to lead high-performing project teams, support strategic growth initiatives, and help expand an already established wastewater treatment practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and deliver wastewater treatment facility projects from planning through design and construction
  • Serve as Project Manager and Client Manager for municipal wastewater utility clients
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams consisting of process, structural, mechanical, electrical, and civil engineers
  • Oversee project budgets, schedules, quality control, and client communications
  • Develop technical approaches and solutions for wastewater treatment facility improvements and expansions
  • Support treatment plant upgrades, rehabilitation programmes, capacity expansions, and regulatory compliance initiatives
  • Mentor and develop junior and mid-level engineering staff
  • Participate in business development, client relationship management, and strategic growth efforts
  • Support proposal development, project pursuits, and presentations to municipal clients
  • Coordinate with contractors, regulatory agencies, and utility stakeholders throughout project delivery

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical, or related Engineering discipline
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licence required
  • 15+ years of wastewater treatment engineering experience
  • Proven experience managing wastewater treatment projects for municipal clients
  • Established relationships with utilities and public-sector clients throughout Virginia, Maryland, and the broader Mid-Atlantic region
  • Strong project management and client management capabilities
  • Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and business development skills
  • Ability to support regional growth initiatives and mentor technical staff
