Water/Wastewater Project Engineer (PE)

Location: Albuquerque, NM

Position Overview

We are seeking a Water/Wastewater Project Engineer (PE) to join our growing Albuquerque team. This role offers the opportunity to work on a variety of municipal water, wastewater, and utility infrastructure projects throughout New Mexico and the Southwest. The successful candidate will be involved in all phases of project delivery, from planning and design through construction support, while working closely with public-sector clients and multidisciplinary engineering teams.

The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a desire to take ownership of projects while continuing to grow into future project management and leadership responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering & Design

  • Lead the design and development of water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare engineering reports, design calculations, technical memoranda, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Design and evaluate:
    • Water distribution systems
    • Wastewater collection systems
    • Pump stations and lift stations
    • Water storage facilities
    • Treatment plant improvements
    • Utility rehabilitation and replacement projects
  • Perform hydraulic analyses and system evaluations.
  • Develop plans utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D and other engineering software platforms.
  • Support project permitting and regulatory compliance efforts.

Project Delivery

  • Coordinate with project managers and multidisciplinary teams to successfully deliver projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Assist with project planning, scope development, scheduling, and resource management.
  • Participate in client meetings and serve as a technical point of contact.
  • Support construction administration activities, including submittal reviews, RFIs, site visits, and contractor coordination.
  • Maintain project documentation and quality control standards.

Client & Team Collaboration

  • Collaborate with municipalities, water authorities, and utility districts throughout project execution.
  • Build strong working relationships with clients and project stakeholders.
  • Mentor EITs and junior engineers through technical guidance and project involvement.
  • Support proposal preparation and business development efforts as opportunities arise.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • 5-10 years of experience in water and wastewater engineering consulting.
  • Experience with municipal infrastructure and utility projects.
  • Strong understanding of water distribution and wastewater collection system design.
  • Experience preparing engineering reports, plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Strong communication and project coordination abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments in a collaborative environment.

Preferred Experience

  • New Mexico municipal water and wastewater projects.
  • Water treatment and wastewater treatment facility design.
  • Pump station and lift station projects.
  • Utility master planning and asset management.
  • Capital Improvement Programs (CIPs).
  • Construction administration and field services.
  • Experience working with local agencies, including municipalities, counties, and water utilities.
