Asset Manager (Treasury / Relationship Lead)

Asset Manager - Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Asset Manager to oversee the performance and value optimisation of a growing Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) portfolio. This role sits at the intersection of asset operations, finance, and stakeholder management, with a strong focus on bank and lender relationships, financing structure management, and covenant/compliance oversight across multiple project SPVs.

You will act as a key point of contact for lenders, financing counterparties, investors, and internal teams, ensuring assets remain compliant with financing requirements, reporting obligations are met, and refinancing/optimisation opportunities are identified and executed.

Key Responsibilities

1) Lender & Banking Relationship Management

  • Serve as the primary interface with banks, lenders, debt advisors, and financing counterparties across the portfolio.
  • Lead ongoing lender engagement, including routine check-ins, ad-hoc requests, and relationship building to support long-term financing flexibility.
  • Coordinate and deliver all lender reporting (financial, operational, compliance), ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with facility requirements.
  • Manage communications related to consents, waivers, amendments, and approvals as required under financing agreements.

2) Financing Structure & Covenant Oversight (Core Focus)

  • Own asset-level governance across project finance structures, including SPVs, security packages, reserve accounts, cash waterfall mechanics, and distribution constraints.
  • Monitor and manage compliance with financing documentation, including:
    • Financial covenants (e.g., DSCR, leverage, reserve requirements)
    • Operational covenants (availability/performance, maintenance obligations)
    • Information covenants (reporting frequency, audit requirements)
  • Track and manage conditions precedent (CPs), ongoing conditions, and post-close obligations, ensuring full compliance throughout the asset lifecycle.
  • Partner with internal finance and external advisors to support refinancing, repricing, hedging, or restructuring initiatives.

3) Asset Performance Management & Value Optimisation

  • Oversee asset performance across commercial and financial dimensions, ensuring assets meet targets and lender expectations.
  • Work with internal/external operations teams (O&M, EMS/dispatch, OEMs) to investigate underperformance and implement corrective action plans.
  • Identify and execute value-enhancement opportunities (e.g., contract optimisation, cost efficiencies, revenue uplift, operational improvements).
  • Support the development of long-term asset strategies, including lifecycle planning, capex planning, and risk mitigation.

4) Stakeholder & Internal Coordination

  • Coordinate cross-functionally with Development, Engineering, Commercial, Finance/Treasury, Legal, and Operations to ensure aligned asset strategy.
  • Manage external advisors including lenders' technical advisors, independent engineers, insurance brokers, legal counsel, and auditors.
  • Prepare clear materials for internal stakeholders and investment partners: asset performance updates, risk dashboards, and recommendation papers.

5) Governance, Risk & Documentation

  • Maintain strong governance across all portfolio documentation including financing documents, operational contracts, reporting packs, and compliance trackers.
  • Drive risk management and controls, ensuring issues are escalated early and solutions are executed efficiently.
  • Support transaction transitions (COD handover, post-close integration), ensuring smooth operationalisation of financing obligations and reporting cadence.

Requirements

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in asset management, project finance, treasury, structured finance, or infrastructure investment, ideally within renewables or power.
  • Demonstrated track record managing bank/lender relationships and working under project finance frameworks (non-recourse / limited recourse preferred).
  • Strong experience with financing documentation and compliance, including covenants, reporting, CPs, consents, and amendments.
  • Exposure to operating assets (renewables, storage, IPPs, infrastructure) preferred; BESS experience is a plus.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of project finance structures: SPVs, cash waterfalls, reserve accounts, security packages, DSCR mechanics.
  • Ability to translate operational realities into lender-ready reporting and financing compliance narratives.
  • Strong stakeholder management-comfortable engaging senior lender representatives and internal leadership.
  • High attention to detail with an ability to manage multiple assets and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication (board/investor and lender reporting quality).
