Biologist/Field Supervisor
Position Summary:
Our client is looking for a Biologist/Field Supervisor to join their team in Sacramento. The successful candidate will lead biological resource assessments, oversee technical report writing, mentor junior staff, and lead wetland delineations. This is a mid-level role ideal for someone with a strong knowledge of California's ecological systems, regulatory frameworks, and client relations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage biological surveys, habitat assessments, and species-specific studies (e.g., rare plants, vernal pools, listed wildlife)
- Prepare and review biological technical reports, CEQA/NEPA documents, and regulatory permit applications (e.g., CDFW, USFWS, RWQCB, ACOE)
- Provide senior-level QA/QC for biological deliverables and ensure compliance with project scopes, timelines, and budgets
- Coordinate and consult with clients, regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders
- Mentor and train junior biologists and field staff
- Support business development through proposal writing, client outreach, and participation in professional organizations
Qualifications:
- M.S. or B.S. in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field (Master's preferred)
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in biological consulting or resource management in California
- Demonstrated expertise with California flora and fauna, including special-status species in the Central Valley and surrounding regions
- Strong understanding of CEQA/NEPA, ESA, CESA, Clean Water Act, and related environmental laws and permitting processes
- Excellent technical writing, communication, and organizational skills
- Proven project management and client relationship experience
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as needed
Preferred Qualifications:
- Holding federal and/or state permits for species such as California red-legged frog, giant garter snake, vernal pool crustaceans, or elderberry longhorn beetle
- Experience with habitat restoration or mitigation monitoring
- Proficiency with GIS, GPS data collection, and ecological modeling tools
