Civil Construction Area Manager

Location: Belgrade, MT
Compensation: $135,000-$175,000 base salary (depending on experience)

An established and growing general contractor is seeking a Civil Construction Area Manager to lead civil operations in and around Belgrade, Montana. This role provides full oversight of multiple projects while serving as a key driver of operational performance, financial results, and team development.

This opportunity is well suited for a proven civil construction leader who enjoys owning outcomes, mentoring teams, and playing an active role in expanding a successful operation.


Responsibilities

  • Oversee multiple civil construction projects from preconstruction through completion
  • Lead and support Project Managers and Superintendents to ensure safety, schedule, budget, and quality targets are met
  • Manage area‑level financial performance, including budgets, forecasting, job costs, billing, and change management
  • Own P&L performance and drive margin improvement and operational efficiency
  • Coordinate labor, equipment, and resources across the project portfolio
  • Support relationships with owners, engineers, and trade partners
  • Help recruit, mentor, and retain high‑performing project and field leadership
  • Ensure compliance with contract requirements, safety standards, and company procedures

Experience Needed

  • 8-15+ years of experience in civil construction with a general contractor
  • Prior responsibility overseeing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong background in site development, earthwork, underground utilities, or similar civil scopes
  • Experience leading project teams and driving operational performance
  • Demonstrated success managing project budgets and job profitability

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (or comparable experience)
  • Strong understanding of job cost reporting, forecasting, and financial controls
  • Ability to balance strategic leadership with hands‑on operational involvement
  • Effective communicator with strong leadership and decision‑making skills
  • Proficiency with construction management software and Microsoft Office tools
  • Knowledge of civil construction safety standards and best practices
  • PMP, CCM, or similar certifications are a plus but not required
