Job Title: Environmental Scientist/Engineer
Location: Fort Knox, Kentucky
Position Overview:
This role for a Environmental Scientist/Engineer will serve as the primary point of contact for technical coordination of environmental project requirements at Fort Knox. This role provides technical and programmatic support to meet the requirements of the Army's Environmental Program, including the Compliance Cleanup Program, Installation Restoration/Remediation Program, Military Munitions Response Program (MMRP), and the Underground/Aboveground Storage Tank Programs. Work will be conducted in accordance with CERCLA, RCRA, and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical reviews and recommendations on environmental plans, reports, and innovative technologies
- Monitor technical progress and financial status of restoration projects
- Support Defense State Memorandum of Agreement (DSMOA) and Joint Execution Plan development
- Assist with preparation of the Defense Environmental Programs Annual Report to Congress (DEPARC)
- Provide support for Restoration Advisory Board (RAB) meetings and public involvement activities
- Prepare and maintain records of communications, meeting minutes, and After Action Reports (AARs)
- Upload official environmental restoration documents to the Army's cleanup program repository
- Maintain and update the Administrative Record (AR) and Information Repository (IR)
- Conduct evaluations of environmental library storage and document inventories
- Support Installation Action Plan (IAP) reviews and ensure consistency with Army guidance
- Review and update Land Use Control (LUC) documentation and GIS data
- Prepare Cost to Complete (CTC) packages and support CTC roll-forward requirements
- Provide support for 5-Year Reviews, including data collection and participation in site activities
- Identify and correct data discrepancies and support environmental program optimization
- Prepare and deliver briefings to installation leadership and stakeholders
- Participate in annual In-Progress Reviews (IPRs) and other program meetings
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, geology, or a related physical science field
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in environmental restoration or related technical support
- Working knowledge of RCRA and CERCLA regulations and guidance
- Experience with environmental assessment and remediation of contaminated sites
- Strong skills in public relations, partnership building, and project management
- U.S. citizenship and ability to pass a background/security check
