Traveling Federal Construction Project Manager

Position Overview
This role is ideal for a project leader who thrives in the field and enjoys taking on diverse challenges across multiple locations. As a Traveling Federal Construction Project Manager, you will oversee federal construction and renovation projects from early planning stages through final completion. Your work will begin primarily in North and South Dakota, with future assignments expanding to additional regions as projects evolve. You'll coordinate teams, manage documentation, ensure regulatory compliance, and keep complex projects moving efficiently, while traveling as needed.


Core Responsibilities

Project Planning & Execution

  • Oversee project activities from concept to closeout, ensuring that schedules, deliverables, and quality expectations are consistently met.
  • Develop detailed construction schedules, breaking work into logical phases and sequencing tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Interpret drawings, specifications, and contract requirements, conveying key information to field teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders.

Submittals & Documentation

  • Manage submittals and project documentation through digital platforms and organized tracking processes.
  • Prepare handoff materials and coordinate scope adjustments or revisions with clients, consultants, and subcontract partners.
  • Assist in creating field presentations and project administration documents that support day‑to‑day operations.

Field Coordination

  • Work closely with field teams to determine construction methods, labor needs, and equipment requirements.
  • Support workforce planning by helping to coordinate crews and align staffing with project phases.
  • Perform site visits in the Dakotas and beyond, verifying compliance with federal guidelines, safety requirements, and project specifications.
  • Work with designers, supervisors, and stakeholders to troubleshoot and resolve construction challenges.

Compliance, Safety & Permitting

  • Secure necessary permits, approvals, and credentials required for work on federal properties.
  • Encourage environmental stewardship and support the implementation of protection or sustainability programs.
  • Ensure all work follows applicable safety standards, building codes, and federal regulations.
