Field SCADA Engineer (Ignition)
About the Role
This position focuses on the onsite deployment and commissioning of Ignition‑based SCADA solutions within mission‑critical facilities. The role is heavily field‑oriented and client‑facing, supporting system activation, testing, and handover rather than core software development.
You'll work closely with internal engineering teams and end users to ensure systems perform reliably in live environments, with travel forming a significant part of the role.
Key Responsibilities
System Deployment & Commissioning
- Travel to customer sites to support installation and commissioning of Ignition SCADA systems
- Execute point‑to‑point verification of data, alarms, controls, and graphical interfaces
- Validate Perspective applications, HMIs, and operator interfaces during live startup activities
- Support system integration, functional testing, and commissioning efforts
Testing & Validation
- Carry out acceptance and operational testing to confirm systems meet performance expectations
- Validate dynamic interfaces, reusable layouts, dashboards, and visual elements
- Confirm correct data flow between front‑end applications and backend systems (PLCs, databases, historians)
- Test alarms, trends, and real‑time displays across desktop and mobile platforms
- Troubleshoot interface, visualization, and data connectivity issues in operational environments
Client Interaction & Go‑Live Support
- Demonstrate system functionality during handover and go‑live activities
- Support user acceptance testing and address technical questions
- Provide technical support during early operation and stabilization
- Communicate field findings and required changes back to internal engineering teams
Required Experience
- 3+ years of hands‑on experience deploying or commissioning Ignition SCADA systems
- Strong practical experience with Ignition Perspective projects
- Background in point verification, system testing, and SCADA/BMS validation
- Experience integrating SCADA platforms with PLCs and industrial communication protocols
- Proven troubleshooting ability in live production environments
- Comfortable working independently onsite with minimal supervision
- Strong communication skills for customer‑facing work
- Willingness to travel extensively (approximately 50-60%)
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel as required
Preferred Experience
- Technical degree or equivalent practical experience
- Exposure to data centers or other critical infrastructure environments
- Familiarity with SQL databases, time‑series historians, or event‑driven architectures
- Understanding of role‑based access, security configuration, and dashboard customization
- Experience with remote technical support
- Understanding of construction, startup, or commissioning workflows
- Experience supporting acceptance testing or quality processes
