Salary: $120,000 - $150,000 + Benefits

We are seeking an experienced Safety Manager to join a well-established heavy civil general contractor in the Portland area. This role will play a key part in driving a strong safety culture across challenging public works and infrastructure projects, including highways, bridges, utilities, and large-scale earthwork.

This is an opportunity to step into a leadership role where safety is truly prioritized and supported from the top down.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and enforce site-specific safety programs across multiple heavy civil projects
  • Conduct jobsite safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments
  • Implement and maintain compliance with OSHA, state, and local safety regulations
  • Facilitate safety meetings, training programs, and toolbox talks
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and develop corrective action plans
  • Partner closely with Superintendents and Project Managers to promote a proactive safety culture
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reporting related to safety performance

Experience Needed

  • 5+ years of safety experience within heavy civil, infrastructure, or public works construction
  • Strong exposure to projects such as DOT work, highways, bridges, underground utilities, or mass excavation
  • Proven experience managing safety across multiple active jobsites
  • Experience conducting incident investigations and implementing corrective actions
  • Familiarity with EMR, OSHA logs, and safety performance metrics

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety, Construction Management, or related field (preferred but not required)
  • OSHA 30 (minimum); OSHA 500/510 preferred
  • CHST, CSP, or similar safety certification highly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and heavy civil safety standards
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence field teams and leadership
  • Ability to travel locally to project sites around the Portland area
