Instrumentation & Controls Engineer (Power Generation)
Overview:
Seeking an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer to support the operation and reliability of a large industrial power generation facility. This role blends controls engineering with electrical systems exposure and can be scoped at the associate, mid, or lead level depending on experience.
What they're looking for:
- BS in Engineering (ABET accredited) or PE license
- Experience with industrial control systems, ideally in power generation or heavy industrial environments
- Hands-on experience with DCS, PLCs, HMIs, and field instrumentation
- Strong understanding of control logic, system integration, and plant operations
Core responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot and support plant control systems and instrumentation
- Develop and modify control logic, system specs, and engineering drawings
- Perform field testing, system analysis, and performance evaluations
- Lead or support plant upgrades, outages, and commissioning efforts
- Drive reliability improvements and support capital projects
- Partner with operations and maintenance teams on day-to-day issues
- Maintain accurate technical documentation and ensure compliance with safety standards
- Interface with internal teams and external vendors
Electrical exposure (important for targeting):
- Power distribution systems
- Motor control centers (MCCs)
- Transformers and grounding systems
- Protective relaying and equipment integration
- Coordination between electrical and control systems
Additional:
- Strong technical writing and documentation skills
- Comfortable working cross-functionally in a plant environment
- Ability to pass background or security screening if required
