Lead Electrical Engineer
Our client is seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to join their engineering team and take ownership of designing and delivering large-scale renewable energy projects. This role involves leading the design of solar PV and battery energy storage systems (BESS) ranging from 1 MW to 500+ MW, ensuring compliance with technical standards and codes, and mentoring junior engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and perform detailed electrical design for PV/BESS systems, including AC/DC wiring diagrams, grounding, and DAS layouts.
- Prepare construction documents: drawings, power system studies, and specifications.
- Execute and review calculations for equipment sizing, voltage drop, load flow, short circuit, grounding, and thermal analysis.
- Coordinate with project managers, field teams, and external partners to ensure design compliance and scope alignment.
- Review deliverables and enforce QA/QC processes throughout design and construction phases.
- Mentor designers and junior engineers; act as a technical resource for the team.
- Attend site visits and client meetings as needed.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) license in California required.
- Experience: 5-7 years in electrical design for commercial or utility-scale projects; solar experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of NEC and NESC codes.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, ETAP (or equivalent), and Microsoft Office; PVsyst and Cymcap experience a plus.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
