We're partnered with a major civil infrastructure consultancy seeking a Lead Geotechnical Engineer for a high‑profile, multi‑year reservoir and earth‑dam program in the Fort Lauderdale area. This is one of the largest projects of its kind in Florida, offering long-term stability, career growth, and the chance to work on nationally significant civil works.
The role serves as the senior geotechnical authority on site, overseeing design, field investigations, foundation and embankment evaluations, material testing programs, and construction-phase support. You'll guide engineering teams, resolve field issues, and ensure geotechnical compliance with USACE and state agency standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead geotechnical analyses including slope stability, settlement, seepage, and foundation design.
- Prepare and review geotechnical recommendations, specs, and technical reports.
- Address RFIs, variances, and differing site condition assessments.
- Support construction activities for dams, reservoirs, canals, levees, and major earthwork.
- Oversee field investigations, instrumentation data, and material testing programs.
- Review contractor submittals and support real-time issue resolution.
- Collaborate with project managers, regulatory agencies, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Mentor project and staff engineers and support technical development.
Minimum Requirements
- PE license with 10+ years as a licensed engineer
- 15+ years of geotechnical experience
- At least two embankment dam construction projects in the last 10 years
- Strong technical writing and communication skills
Preferred
- Master's in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering
- Experience as Lead Geotechnical Engineer or Engineer of Record
- Familiarity with USACE, water management districts, and DOT standards
- Background in cutoff walls, grouting, vibration monitoring, or foundation rehab
- Demonstrated team leadership
