Mechanical Estimator - Tampa

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Estimator to join our growing team in Tampa, FL. As a key member of our preconstruction department, you will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for HVAC and mechanical systems on commercial and institutional construction projects. This role requires a deep understanding of mechanical systems, construction drawings, and estimating software, as well as the ability to collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities:

• Analyze project specifications, drawings, and scope documents to develop detailed cost estimates for HVAC systems including ductwork, piping, equipment, and controls.
• Perform quantity take-offs using digital tools (e.g., Bluebeam, Trimble, PlanSwift).
• Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes for materials, equipment, and labor.
• Prepare and submit comprehensive bid proposals, including scope clarifications, exclusions, and value engineering options.
• Collaborate with project managers and engineers to ensure alignment between estimates and project execution plans.
• Maintain and update historical cost databases and unit pricing for future reference.
• Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and post-bid reviews.
• Track and manage bid schedules, deadlines, and deliverables.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities and recommend alternative solutions during the estimating process.

Required Qualifications:

• 3-7 years of experience in mechanical estimating, preferably within a commercial HVAC or mechanical contracting environment.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC systems including air handling units, chillers, boilers, VRF systems, ductwork, hydronic piping, and building automation systems.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting mechanical and architectural drawings, specifications, and submittals.
• Experience with estimating software such as FastPIPE, FastDUCT, QuoteSoft, Trimble Accubid, or similar.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Strong mathematical, analytical, and organizational skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple estimates simultaneously under tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
• Familiarity with Florida building codes and local permitting processes.
• Experience with design-build and plan-spec project delivery methods.
• Knowledge of LEED and sustainable HVAC design practices.
