Physical Power Trader
Key Responsibilities
- Build, manage, and optimize physical power trading portfolios in Japan to drive margin generation and overall profitability
- Expand proprietary trading activities across physical and financial products with both existing and new counterparties, with a primary focus on power and related fuel markets
- Implement and oversee proprietary trading strategies aligned with broader regional objectives
- Lead commercial negotiations, conduct due diligence, and execute trades in close collaboration with internal teams
- Provide market and trading expertise to support origination efforts and broader commercial initiatives within the Japanese market
- Ensure all trading activities comply with internal risk frameworks, regulatory requirements, and governance standards
- Develop and maintain strong commercial relationships across the APAC energy market
- Work closely with traders, analysts, and cross‑border teams to structure new products and execute complex transactions
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, economics, or a related energy discipline
- Demonstrated experience in physical power trading in Japan, including exposure to exchange and bilateral markets, scheduling, and operational processes
- Strong knowledge of hedging techniques, power and fuel market dynamics, renewable energy markets, and relevant regulations
- Commercially driven and creative deal‑maker with a strong focus on results
- Proven negotiation skills and the ability to build and sustain long‑term counterparty relationships
- Fluency in both English and Japanese
