Lead the Growth of Transportation Across Tennessee

An established national engineering, environmental, and infrastructure consulting organization is seeking a Sector Lead - Transportation Engineering to drive strategic growth and operational excellence throughout Tennessee.

This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned transportation leader to build upon an existing foundation of transportation and construction management work while expanding services across all TDOT regions. The successful candidate will play a key role in growing transportation planning, environmental, design, and construction support services throughout the state.

What You'll Be Doing

Business Development & Market Growth

  • Develop and execute a regional transportation growth strategy.
  • Expand relationships with TDOT, municipalities, counties, MPOs, and private-sector clients.
  • Lead client engagement, networking, and business development initiatives.
  • Drive pursuit strategies, proposal efforts, and key project wins.
  • Partner with leadership teams to identify new market opportunities and expand service offerings.
  • Promote collaboration and cross-selling opportunities across multiple service lines.

Leadership & Operations

  • Lead transportation operations across Tennessee with responsibility for a growing business portfolio of up to $20M in annual revenue.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and guidance to project managers, engineers, and technical staff.
  • Conduct regular business development, operational, and staff meetings.
  • Support workforce planning, recruiting, retention, and succession planning efforts.
  • Foster a high-performance culture focused on collaboration, accountability, and client service.

Financial & Project Management

  • Manage sector financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, resource planning, and profitability.
  • Monitor project performance, schedules, utilization, quality, and client satisfaction.
  • Review project budgets, contracts, and billing activities.
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and prepare leadership reports.
  • Provide executive oversight on major transportation projects and pursuits.

Technical Leadership

  • Provide strategic direction across transportation planning, environmental, design, and construction programs.
  • Participate in project reviews and quality assurance efforts.
  • Serve as Project Manager or Executive Sponsor on select high-profile projects.
  • Support proposal development, presentations, and client interviews.
  • Review technical deliverables and provide guidance to project teams.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • 20+ years of transportation industry experience.
  • 10+ years of experience delivering Federal and/or TDOT transportation projects.
  • Deep understanding of TDOT policies, procedures, project delivery methods, and procurement processes.
  • Strong network of transportation clients and industry partners across Tennessee.
  • Proven track record of winning, managing, and growing transportation work.
  • Experience leading a business unit, department, practice, or regional operation.
  • Strong financial management, budgeting, forecasting, and P&L experience.
  • Outstanding communication, relationship-building, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to travel approximately 25%.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License.
  • Master's Degree in Engineering, Business, Planning, or a related field.
  • Experience overseeing multidisciplinary transportation programs including planning, environmental, design, and construction services.
  • Demonstrated success developing and implementing growth strategies.
