Senior Mechanical Engineer - Power Generation
Role Summary
Lead mechanical engineering efforts for large-scale projects from initial concept through detailed design completion. This role supports project leadership by delivering high‑quality mechanical designs aligned with project scope, schedule, budget, and client expectations. The position combines technical leadership, team management, client engagement, and business development responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the mechanical engineering lead for projects, overseeing execution from concept development through final design delivery.
- Develop specifications and data sheets for mechanical and packaged equipment; prepare RFQs, evaluate technical bids, and provide purchase recommendations.
- Review and coordinate vendor submittals and drawings; manage technical interfaces with suppliers, clients, internal teams, and other engineering disciplines.
- Contribute to project planning activities, including schedule development, scope definition, budgeting, staffing, and construction planning.
- Manage and evaluate design changes and change orders to ensure alignment with project objectives.
- Apply advanced mechanical engineering principles, industry codes, and best practices to complex engineering challenges, including non‑standard and innovative solutions.
- Perform quality reviews of design packages, drawings, and models across multiple CAD and design platforms to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Coordinate with construction teams and field personnel to address installation issues, perform field inspections, support testing, and resolve design-related challenges during construction.
- Lead on-site inspections and technical evaluations for both public and private sector clients.
- Prepare and deliver technical reports, presentations, and documentation for clients and professional or industry use.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, contractors, and stakeholders; actively support new business development efforts.
- Support sales and marketing initiatives by identifying opportunities, managing pursuits, and contributing to proposal strategies.
- Oversee development of cost proposals, qualification packages, and project budgets; monitor and report project performance.
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and technical guidance to junior engineers and engineering teams.
- Ensure adherence to quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) procedures, safety standards, and company policies.
- Maintain effective communication and collaboration across all engineering disciplines.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in the power generation industry, with strong expertise in piping engineering and design, pipe support systems, plant layout, and piping stress analysis.
- Demonstrated experience managing and mentoring engineering teams of 5-6 professionals.
- Solid understanding of thermal cycle engineering; advanced capability in plant layout and piping design.
- Proficiency in 3D model review tools such as Navisworks and piping analysis software (e.g., CAESAR II / AutoPIPE).
- Strong working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards, including ASME, ANSI, API, PIP, and NACE.
- Proven leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills within large, multidisciplinary organizations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
