Senior Substation Physical Engineer (Florida/Georgia - Remote)
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Substation Physical Engineer to lead the design and development of high-voltage substation projects (69kV to 500kV). The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and a strong understanding of substation physical design, layout, and equipment specifications. This role involves working closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective solutions for utility and energy clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the physical design of high-voltage substations including general arrangements, equipment layouts, grounding, conduit, and cable plans.
- Develop and review engineering drawings, specifications, and calculations for substation physical systems.
- Coordinate with civil, structural, protection & control, and SCADA teams to ensure integrated design solutions.
- Perform site visits and field investigations to support design and construction activities.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., IEEE, NESC, NEC), utility requirements, and safety regulations.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and designers.
- Support project management with scope, schedule, and budget planning.
- Interface with clients, vendors, and contractors to resolve technical issues and ensure project success.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- 8-10 years of experience in substation physical design engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or ability to obtain within 12 months.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, and substation design tools (e.g., PLS-CADD, ETAP, or similar).
- Strong knowledge of high-voltage equipment (transformers, breakers, disconnects, buswork, etc.).
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
