Job Title: Transmission Planning & Engineering - Senior
Location: Phoenix, AZ
Overview:
This role supports the safety and reliability of a high-voltage transmission system ranging from 69kV to 500kV. The position involves conducting technical studies, leading multiple projects, and staying current with industry standards and best practices. The engineer will also mentor junior staff and collaborate across departments and with external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop long-term transmission plans and support infrastructure investment.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and industry guidelines.
- Build and maintain transmission models for power flow, dynamic analysis, and short circuit studies.
- Facilitate reliable interconnection of new energy resources.
- Support economic development through innovative transmission solutions for large customers.
- Conduct technical studies using simulation tools such as GE PSLF and CAPE.
- Lead multiple projects, ensuring quality, schedule adherence, and stakeholder coordination.
- Represent the organization in technical work groups and regional committees.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with transmission service and interconnection studies.
- Proficiency in power flow and transient stability analysis (GE PSLF, TARA, PowerWorld, PSSE).
- Experience with short circuit analysis tools (Siemens CAPE, ASPEN).
- Familiarity with NERC standards (MOD, TPL, CIP, FAC, PRC).
- Understanding of Open Access Transmission Tariff principles.
- Knowledge of regional transmission systems and regulatory environments.
- Strong communication skills for working with internal teams and external agencies.
Minimum Requirements:
- Senior Engineer: Bachelor's degree in engineering or applied science from an accredited institution, plus 8 years of relevant experience.

- Prepare detailed engineering plans, designs, analyses, and cost estimates.
- Manage broad-scope projects requiring interpretation of guidelines and standards.
- Collaborate with customers and internal departments to meet project goals.
- Provide mentorship and technical direction to junior engineers.
- Support strategic problem-solving and long-term planning.
- Engage with industry resources and regulatory bodies to resolve technical issues.
- Plan and coordinate large-scale or multiple medium-scale engineering projects.
- Monitor project performance and recommend efficiency improvements.
- Research emerging technologies and advise on their applicability.
