Subject Matter Expert (SME) - Water Infrastructure

Location: Flexible (Regional preference: Mid-Atlantic, Northeast, Midwest)

  • Large diameter sewer rehabilitation and design
  • Large diameter transmission main design
  • Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) expertise

Your Role and Responsibilities

As a Subject Matter Expert (SME), you will be part of an internationally recognized team within integrated water infrastructure. Our business strategy is framed by sustainability and a genuine aspiration to do more good. You will join a community of interdisciplinary colleagues united around water solutions and work collaboratively across regions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Serving as a Technical Lead on larger, complex programs.
  • Acting as Lead Quality Reviewer for work products developed by others and coordinating multidisciplinary engineering deliverables (calculations, drawings, specifications, cost estimates).
  • Preparing technical approaches for proposals and fee estimates for water and wastewater linear infrastructure projects.
  • Training and mentoring design and engineering staff.
  • Participating in professional affiliations to strengthen technical skills and represent capabilities through technical presentations.

Qualifications

  • Education: B.S. in Civil/Environmental Engineering (12+ years of experience preferred; demonstrated expertise accepted).
  • Technical expertise in water and wastewater linear infrastructure design, including:
    • Large diameter water transmission mains
    • Sewage force mains and gravity systems
    • CSO and/or stormwater conveyance systems
  • Experience with pumping stations and water storage design (preferred).
  • Strong personnel development skills and experience mentoring engineering/design teams.
  • Excellent communication skills for conveying complex technical knowledge to clients and stakeholders.
  • Experience with trenchless pipe installation and rehabilitation technologies.
  • Professional engineering licensure in relevant regions and ability to obtain multiple licenses through reciprocity.
  • Client-facing experience and strong existing relationships in water/wastewater infrastructure or resiliency (preferred).
