Tooling Engineering Manager
Position Summary
We are seeking a proactive and experienced engineering leader with deep expertise in mold design and plastic forming technologies. This role will oversee the full lifecycle of mold development, from design and procurement to validation and continuous improvement, ensuring the use of cutting-edge technologies to optimize tooling performance and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the tooling department, including a team of technicians.
Develop and execute tooling strategies aligned with production goals.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient tooling design and integration.
Monitor tooling performance and drive improvements through data analysis.
Design and develop new tooling, fixtures, and gauges to support manufacturing operations.
Maintain accurate documentation for tooling and related processes.
Partner with suppliers to ensure tooling quality and consistency.
Research and implement advanced technologies for mold repair, maintenance, and new tool construction.
Support engineering teams in evaluating product designs for manufacturability and suggest improvements.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on tooling, materials, and manufacturing processes.
Introduce alternative methods and equipment to enhance mold performance and maintenance.
Assist production teams with process optimization and troubleshooting.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related discipline.
Minimum 10 years of experience in injection molding with a focus on tooling design.
At least 5 years in a leadership or management role.
Hands-on experience in mold design and construction.
Proficiency in 3D modeling software and Moldflow analysis.
Familiarity with various mold materials and metal types.
Advanced knowledge of cold and hot runner manifold systems.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proven ability to collaborate with engineering and technical teams.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Skilled in preparing technical reports, presentations, and situational analyses.
Solid understanding of plastics manufacturing processes including injection molding, extrusion, blow molding, and thermoforming.
Experience working with a range of polymer materials.
