Traveling Aviation Construction Project Manager

We are seeking an experienced Traveling Project Manager to lead aviation construction projects across multiple locations. This role is responsible for overseeing all phases of airport and aviation-related construction, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with strict regulatory and operational requirements. The ideal candidate has experience working in active airport environments and is comfortable with a travel-intensive role.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage aviation construction projects from preconstruction through final closeout across various project locations.
  • Develop and maintain project budgets, schedules, and forecasts to ensure successful delivery.
  • Coordinate with airport authorities, government agencies, consultants, subcontractors, and stakeholders to maintain alignment and compliance.
  • Oversee subcontractor procurement, scope development, contract negotiations, and performance management.
  • Ensure compliance with aviation standards and regulations, including FAA requirements, safety protocols, and security procedures.
  • Lead project meetings, provide status updates, and maintain clear communication with clients and leadership.
  • Manage construction activities in active airport environments while minimizing operational disruptions.
  • Oversee contract administration, including RFIs, submittals, change orders, and documentation.
  • Monitor project performance and proactively resolve issues related to safety, cost, schedule, and quality.
  • Conduct regular site visits and ensure field teams adhere to project plans and safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate financial reporting, including cost tracking, forecasting, and billing.
  • Lead project closeout activities, including punch list completion, final inspections, and turnover documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7-12 years of experience in construction project management, with a focus on aviation, airport, or heavy civil/commercial projects.
  • Experience working in active airport environments strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of FAA regulations, airport operations, and airside/landside construction requirements is highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to manage complex, multi-phase projects and coordinate multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts, scheduling, and cost control.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project, Procore, or similar).

Additional Requirements

  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively (often 75%+ depending on project assignments).
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, to accommodate airport operational constraints.
  • Capability to pass airport security background checks and obtain required badging.
  • OSHA certification or strong commitment to jobsite safety practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with runway, taxiway, terminal, or airfield infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with phasing plans, shutdown coordination, and logistics in secure or high-traffic environments.
  • Experience working with public sector clients and regulatory agencies.
