Our client, a respected and employee-focused engineering consultancy, is seeking a highly experienced Project Manager to join their expanding Water/Wastewater Engineering team. This is a strategic opportunity for a professional with deep expertise in water infrastructure to lead complex projects that serve communities across Virginia and the surrounding region.

Role Summary

The Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing the full lifecycle of water and wastewater infrastructure project - from initial planning and design through permitting, construction, and client delivery. This role involves managing multidisciplinary teams, coordinating with subconsultants, and maintaining strong client relationships.

The position offers a hybrid work model, with flexibility to work from home and in-office collaboration based out of either Herndon or Richmond, VA. Occasional travel to project sites and client meetings will be expected.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, design, and execution of water distribution, wastewater collection, and reclaimed water projects.
  • Manage internal engineering teams and external subconsultants across multiple disciplines.
  • Oversee project permitting, budgeting, scheduling, and quality assurance.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring satisfaction and long-term relationship development.
  • Support business development efforts, including proposal writing and client presentations.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of technical excellence and professional growth.
  • Represent the firm at industry conferences and professional association events.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in water/wastewater engineering, including project management and design.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
  • Demonstrated success in managing complex infrastructure projects and exceeding client expectations.
  • Strong understanding of project financials and contract management.
  • Experience with permitting processes and regulatory compliance.
  • Familiarity with water and/or sewer modeling tools is a plus.
  • Experience in designing pumping stations, treatment facilities, and/or storage systems is highly desirable.
