Assistant CMT Department Manager
About the Company:
Our Client is a nationally recognized leader in geotechnical and materials testing services, quietly powering some of the most high-profile infrastructure projects across the Southeast. Known for their deep partnerships with state transportation departments and major design-build teams, they operate autonomously and are trusted to handle the toughest challenges in the field. If you've driven on I-275 or flown through Tampa International, you've seen their work.
About the Role:
We're looking for a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) with 5+ years of experience to join our team as an Assistant CMT Manager. This is a high-impact role with direct reports from day one, supporting three department leads: the CMT Manager, Geotechnical Manager, and Materials Testing Manager. You'll be trained over 12-24 months to master the full scope of CMT operations-from technician management and scheduling to pricing proposals and project management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support and eventually lead aspects of CMT operations including field and lab testing, scheduling, and client coordination.
- Work closely with technicians, helping them grow while maintaining high standards of safety and quality.
- Assist in proposal development, pricing, and project planning.
- Collaborate with geotechnical and materials teams to ensure seamless project execution.
- Learn and apply best practices in managing DOT and owner-side projects.
- Develop leadership skills and character to grow into a future department manager.
What We're Looking For:
- Must be a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.)
- 5+ years of experience in construction materials testing or geotechnical engineering.
- Strong interpersonal skills-more character than ego. We value people who can learn, lead, and work well with others.
- Experience with FDOT, CFX, or similar agencies is a plus, but not required.
- Background in geotechnical engineering is highly preferred.
- No headhunters-this is a hands-on role for someone ready to grow with us.
Why Join Us?
- Be part of a company that's "on fire"-leading major infrastructure projects across Florida.
- Work on high-end, high-impact projects with direct visibility and responsibility.
- Receive mentorship and training to become a future leader in the industry.
