About the Role
We are seeking a highly capable and motivated Design Manager - Electrical to lead the design coordination and delivery of electrical systems for major water infrastructure projects. As part of a national contractor with a strong presence in both the utilities and private sectors, you will play a key role in ensuring the successful integration of electrical design across a diverse portfolio of treatment plants, pump stations, and network infrastructure.
This role offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to the delivery of sustainable and innovative water solutions across Australia.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate the electrical design process across all project phases, from concept through to detailed design and construction support.
- Ensure electrical designs meet project requirements, client specifications, Australian standards, and safety regulations.
- Collaborate with internal engineering, construction, and project management teams, as well as external consultants and subcontractors.
- Review and approve electrical design documentation, including single-line diagrams, schematics, load calculations, and control system layouts.
- Identify and resolve design risks, interface issues, and constructability challenges early in the project lifecycle.
- Support procurement and construction teams with technical input on electrical equipment, systems integration, and commissioning strategies.
- Lead design reviews, value engineering workshops, and contribute to innovation in energy efficiency and automation.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, utilities, and regulatory bodies to ensure alignment and compliance.
About You
- Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of experience in electrical design and engineering, with a strong focus on water infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience working on treatment plants, pump stations, SCADA systems, and HV/LV distribution in the utilities or private sector.
- Strong understanding of Australian electrical standards, codes, and safety regulations.
- Experience managing design consultants and coordinating with construction teams.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Chartered status (CPEng) or working towards it is highly desirable.
