The Opportunity
We are seeking a seasoned engineering leader to head up a mature, 35-person water/wastewater group in the Baltimore metro area. This is a strategic leadership role with strong potential for growth, including expanding the regional practice and contributing to national initiatives.
The ideal candidate will bring a blend of technical expertise, business acumen, and leadership capability. You'll be responsible for overseeing project execution, mentoring staff, ensuring quality standards, and driving business development efforts. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a people-first, growth-oriented environment and is ready to take ownership of a high-performing team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead strategic planning and growth initiatives for the water/wastewater group
- Build and maintain client relationships and pursue new business opportunities
- Manage budgets, staffing, and resource allocation
- Guide proposal development and participate in client presentations
- Mentor and develop engineering staff
- Oversee hiring and performance reviews
- Ensure quality control and compliance with industry standards
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
- Professional Engineer (PE) license (Maryland or eligible via reciprocity)
- 20+ years of experience in water/wastewater engineering
- Proven track record in project management and business development
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with municipal and county clients in the Baltimore area
- Prior leadership of a consulting team or business unit
- Active involvement in professional associations or industry groups
