A well-established civil engineering consulting firm is seeking a Highway Project Engineer to join its transportation design team in Harrisburg or Bethlehem, PA. This role involves leading roadway and drainage design efforts, supervising junior staff, and contributing to the development of infrastructure projects across Pennsylvania.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead design teams in preparing roadway geometrics and drainage system calculations.
- Supervise and mentor junior engineering personnel.
- Assist in preparing design reports and environmental permit documentation.
- Develop construction documents including roadway plans, erosion and sediment control plans, and quantity tabulations.
- Create traffic control plans, signing layouts, and pavement marking plans.
- Contribute to the development of special provisions and cost estimates.
- Conduct field work to assess existing conditions and document findings.
- Implement quality assurance procedures throughout project development.
- Review shop drawings and respond to contractor RFIs during construction.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Pennsylvania or ability to obtain within six months.
- 10-15 years of progressive experience in highway design.
- Strong understanding of PennDOT and Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) policies and procedures.
- Proficiency with OpenRoads software.
- Experience with MicroStation or AutoCAD.
- Ability to lead teams and manage project deliverables.
