Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Municipal Engineer to support and lead civil engineering projects for local governments and public agencies across Indiana. This role focuses on planning, designing, and delivering infrastructure improvements including water, wastewater, stormwater, transportation, and site development projects. The ideal candidate brings technical expertise, project management experience, and a strong client‑service mindset.


Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, and manage municipal infrastructure projects, including:
    • Water distribution systems
    • Wastewater collection and treatment
    • Stormwater management and drainage improvements
    • Local roads, sidewalks, and complete streets
    • Municipal site and facility upgrades
  • Prepare engineering plans, specifications, reports, cost estimates, and permitting documentation.
  • Serve as Project Engineer or Project Manager, ensuring quality, schedule, and budget performance.
  • Coordinate with municipal clients, regulatory agencies, utility providers, and internal multidisciplinary teams.
  • Support preparation of grant applications, funding requests, and capital improvement planning documents.
  • Conduct site evaluations, field investigations, and assessments of existing infrastructure.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers, designers, and drafting staff.
  • Assist with business development activities including proposal preparation, client meetings, and presentations.
  • Ensure designs comply with INDOT, IDEM, local municipal, and other regulatory standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Indiana or ability to obtain within six months.
  • 3-8+ years of experience in municipal engineering or public infrastructure design.
  • Proficiency with engineering design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS tools, hydraulic modeling software, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of Indiana regulatory frameworks, permitting, and design standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and interact effectively with municipal clients.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with INDOT Local Public Agency (LPA) project development processes.
  • Experience securing and managing projects funded through federal and state programs (e.g., CDBG, SRF, MPO programs).
  • Knowledge of asset management, hydraulic modeling, or long‑term utility planning.
  • Prior experience preparing public meeting materials or presenting to boards/councils.
