Plan Check Engineer
A well-established municipal services and consulting firm with decades of experience supporting government agencies across the country is seeking a full-time Senior Plan Check Engineer in the West Los Angeles area. This is a senior level opportunity to join a highly respected team of building and safety professionals who are committed to maintaining the highest standards of code compliance and public safety.
In this role you will take ownership of complex plan reviews across a wide range of building and structure types, serve as a technical resource for internal staff and external stakeholders, and play a key role in ensuring code conformity throughout the permitting process.
Responsibilities
- Lead review of plans and specifications for completeness and conformity across architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire and life safety, energy conservation (Title 24), green building standards, accessibility, and egress requirements
- Coordinate plan reviews with public agencies and clearly communicate required corrections and modifications to permit applicants
- Authorize issuance of building permits for plans meeting applicable code and ordinance requirements and calculate associated fees
- Serve as a senior resource and advisor to engineers, architects, contractors, and the general public on building regulations, state laws, and local ordinances
- Submit workload and process reports to building officials and provide leadership support at public jurisdictional building counters as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or related field
- Minimum 3 years of experience in architectural or building plan review -- senior candidates with additional experience strongly preferred
- ICC Plans Examiner Certification -- minimum Residential Plan Review Certificate required
- ICC Licensed Master Code Professional with Commercial Plans Reviewer Certification
- Deep knowledge of building codes with strong written and verbal communication skills
