Position Summary

We are seeking a Power and Controls Designer with 5+ years of experience producing electrical and instrumentation design packages for industrial and municipal infrastructure projects. This role supports engineers, project managers, and clients by developing comprehensive drawing sets and documentation used for construction, automation programming, and system integration in the water/wastewater, mining, and industrial markets.

Designers in this role contribute directly to the creation of complete EI&C packages, supporting upgrades, new installations, and facility power studies. Typical assignments may involve lift station improvements, pump system controls, power distribution modifications, and electrical evaluations across various facility types.

This is a full‑time position offering a salary range of $100,000-$150,000+, along with a full suite of employee benefits including health coverage, retirement contributions, paid leave, and more.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare electrical design drawings, including single‑line diagrams, site plans, grounding details, panel schedules, and related documentation.
  • Develop equipment legends, symbols, specification notes, and supplemental technical content for design packages.
  • Produce I&C documents such as P&IDs, loop drawings, wiring diagrams, and instrument I/O listings.
  • Assist with control panel layout development and ensure documentation aligns with UL 508A requirements.
  • Coordinate drawing packages with civil, structural, mechanical, and process teams to maintain alignment across disciplines.
  • Support engineers with electrical power studies, including short‑circuit, load flow, and arc‑flash assessments.
  • Write and revise project specifications related to electrical, control, and instrumentation systems.
  • Apply client design standards and industry codes consistently across all drawings.
  • Incorporate field markups and produce accurate as‑built documentation following site modifications.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers and engineers to ensure deliverables meet quality standards and schedules.
  • Visit project sites occasionally for field verification, measurements, and design support.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience preparing electrical and I&C design drawings.
  • Working knowledge of NEC, NFPA, and ISA standards.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD; experience with Revit is helpful.
  • Ability to independently produce accurate and constructible design packages.
  • Strong understanding of power distribution, control systems, and instrumentation fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with PLC/HMI/SCADA documentation is beneficial.
  • Excellent detail orientation and the ability to juggle multiple ongoing projects.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills for working with both internal and external stakeholders.

Preferred

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or interest in pursuing one.
