Sales Engineer - Commercial HVAC (Manufacturer's Representative)

Overview

A leading manufacturer's sales representative firm specializing in commercial HVAC systems is seeking a dynamic Sales Engineer to join its high‑performing team. This firm represents approximately 150 manufacturers with a strong focus on specialized and applied HVAC equipment across mission‑critical and large‑scale commercial markets.

With ~130 employees across two offices and significant growth-especially in data center and liquid cooling technologies-this is an opportunity to join a well‑established, technically advanced organization driving industry innovation.


Key Responsibilities

Technical Sales & Client Engagement

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for engineers, contractors, developers, and end‑users across assigned territories.
  • Provide expert guidance on HVAC system design, equipment selection, and application of advanced and specialized technologies.
  • Present product solutions, system schematics, and performance analyses to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Project & Pipeline Management

  • Manage a full sales lifecycle from opportunity development through quote, specification support, submittals, and final closeout.
  • Partner closely with internal applications engineers and estimating teams to deliver accurate proposals and technical documentation.
  • Track opportunities, forecasts, and customer interactions using CRM tools.

Market Expertise & Solution Development

  • Develop deep technical understanding of the manufacturer lines represented, including emerging liquid cooling and data‑center‑focused systems.
  • Monitor trends in key verticals-healthcare, K‑12 schools, higher education, hotels, data centers, and large public facilities such as arenas.
  • Translate customer needs into engineered solutions tailored to complex mechanical systems.

Relationship Building

  • Conduct job site visits, lunch-and-learns, and technical training sessions with engineering firms, contractors, and facility owners.
  • Build long‑term relationships that lead to specification inclusion and repeat business.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related technical discipline or equivalent HVAC sales/technical experience.
  • Strong understanding of commercial HVAC systems (air distribution, hydronics, ventilation, applied equipment, etc.).
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Experience working with consulting engineers, mechanical contractors, or facility owners.

Preferred

  • Previous experience with a manufacturer's rep firm, OEM, mechanical contractor, or design engineering firm.
  • Familiarity with mission‑critical/data center environments and emerging cooling technologies (liquid cooling, high‑density cooling solutions).
  • Proficiency in reading plans, reviewing specifications, and performing equipment selections.
