Senior Design Engineer- Power Generation

Role Overview

The Senior Electrical Engineer will take ownership of complex electrical engineering tasks, provide guidance to engineering teams, and help maintain project schedules, budgets, and quality standards. Responsibilities include developing detailed electrical drawings and calculations, preparing specifications and Bills of Materials, supporting site assessments, and working directly with internal teams and external clients. This role also contributes to process improvement, engineering standards, and mentoring of junior professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical design activities on power generation projects, acting as a subject matter expert for LV/MV systems.
  • Produce engineering deliverables such as one‑line and three‑line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, cable sizing, and cable schedules.
  • Perform advanced electrical studies including load flow, short‑circuit, motor starting, arc‑flash analysis, relay settings, and battery/charger sizing using industry software (e.g., ETAP or SKM).
  • Prepare equipment specifications, technical evaluations, and Bills of Materials for procurement and construction.
  • Develop project schedules, man‑hour estimates, and design scopes for proposals.
  • Conduct site visits, review existing conditions, and provide engineering support during installation and commissioning.
  • Review work performed by junior and mid‑level engineers to ensure technical accuracy, compliance with standards, and adherence to quality processes.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines, project managers, and clients to ensure aligned project execution.
  • Participate in the development or refinement of engineering standards, design tools, and processes.
  • Support business development efforts, offering technical insight during proposal and pursuit phases.
  • Mentor and guide engineering staff, contributing to skill development and succession planning.

Preferred Experience

  • Background in utility‑scale conventional power generation design (combined cycle, simple cycle, etc.).
  • Experience leading engineering teams and performing QA/QC reviews.
  • Strong understanding of NEC, IEEE/ANSI, and other applicable industry standards.
  • Familiarity with electrical equipment such as switchgear, transformers, breakers, relays, batteries, chargers, disconnects, surge protection, and power/control/fiber cabling.
  • Ability to manage workloads, schedules, and project budgets effectively.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • At least 11 years of relevant professional electrical engineering experience.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent credential qualifying for Engineer‑of‑Record responsibilities.
  • Ability to meet required pre‑employment screening requirements.
