Core Responsibilities

  • Electrical System Design: Lead the development of electrical power distribution, lighting, grounding, communications, and related infrastructure systems for transportation and facility projects.
  • Technical Leadership: Serve as the lead electrical engineer on multidisciplinary project teams, establishing design approaches and providing technical oversight throughout project execution.
  • Engineering Analysis: Perform and review electrical studies including short circuit, selective coordination, arc flash, load flow, voltage drop, grounding, and photometric lighting calculations.
  • Project Management Support: Assist project managers with project budgets, schedules, staffing requirements, and technical deliverables.
  • Construction Administration: Review shop drawings, contractor submittals, record drawings, and coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders throughout construction.
  • Site Inspections: Conduct field investigations and on-site construction observations to verify system installation and address field conditions.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure engineering work is compliant with company standards, industry best practices, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Business Development: Support proposal development, client presentations, and relationship-building efforts to help secure future project opportunities.
  • Mentorship & Team Development: Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to junior engineers, designers, and technical staff.
  • Client Relations: Serve as a trusted technical resource, maintaining strong client relationships and supporting long-term account growth.

Technical Skills & Software

  • Electrical Design: Advanced knowledge of power distribution systems, electrical infrastructure, facility systems, and transportation-related electrical design.
  • Power System Analysis: Proficiency performing engineering studies using software such as ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, or similar platforms.
  • Design Software: High proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, and other industry-standard engineering and design tools.
  • Technical Documentation: Experience producing engineering calculations, specifications, basis-of-design reports, site assessments, and construction documents.
  • Code Compliance: Thorough understanding of NEC, NESC, ANSI, IEEE, and other applicable industry codes and standards.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an accredited program.
  • License: Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Experience: Typically requires 10+ years of engineering experience, including at least 6 years of electrical design experience within consulting engineering, transportation, infrastructure, or related industries.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams, mentoring staff, and coordinating multidisciplinary project efforts.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with clients, contractors, and project teams.
  • Industry Knowledge: Broad understanding of engineering disciplines, construction practices, and regulatory requirements affecting infrastructure and transportation projects.
  • Preferred Experience: Previous consulting engineering experience strongly preferred. Experience with substation design and Design-Build project delivery is considered a plus.
