Senior Leadership Controls Baggage Systems Engineer
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced engineer to lead the planning, evaluation, and delivery of airport baggage handling system projects. In this role, you'll guide multidisciplinary teams and work directly with airport clients to develop system concepts, produce technical designs, and oversee installation and performance verification. The ideal candidate is comfortable managing complex automation projects, coordinating with internal and external partners, and ensuring that system layouts and controls meet operational, regulatory, and performance requirements.
This position offers the opportunity to influence major aviation infrastructure projects while mentoring junior team members and helping shape technical standards.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead engineering efforts for baggage handling systems, including system capacity analysis, throughput modeling, and equipment sizing.
- Create system layouts, conveyor routes, and equipment selections that align with project specifications, industry design criteria, and applicable security standards.
- Develop control system concepts and integrate mechanical and automation components into a cohesive operational solution.
- Prepare budgets, life‑cycle cost evaluations, and detailed design packages for client review.
- Support testing and commissioning efforts to verify system performance, reliability, and compliance with security and operational requirements.
- Conduct design reviews and present technical information to clients, contractors, and project stakeholders.
- Provide mentorship and daily guidance to engineering staff throughout the project lifecycle.
- Participate in construction administration, field observations, and system troubleshooting as needed.
- Collaborate with project managers and other engineering disciplines to ensure coordinated design efforts.
- Identify opportunities to improve system efficiency, maintainability, and overall project value.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering from an accredited institution.
- 5+ years of experience in the design and delivery of baggage handling or similar automated material‑handling systems in the aviation environment.
- Proven ability to lead engineering teams and coordinate technical work.
- Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
- Ability to pass background checks and security requirements necessary for airport and government‑related work.
- Availability for occasional travel.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with controlled conveyor systems, security screening integration, and operational performance metrics.
- Experience presenting technical concepts to clients and participating in high‑level design discussions.
Compensation
Salary range: $140,000 - $170,000, depending on experience, technical expertise, and overall qualifications.
