Building Automation Estimator
Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically proficient Building Automation Estimator to join our team. This role is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for building automation systems (BAS) and controls projects, including HVAC, lighting, energy management, and integration with other building systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, automation technologies, and project cost structures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review project specifications, drawings, and RFPs to determine scope and requirements.
- Develop detailed cost estimates for building automation systems, including hardware, software, labor, and subcontractor costs.
- Collaborate with engineering, sales, and project management teams to ensure alignment on scope and pricing.
- Prepare and present bid proposals and documentation for clients and internal stakeholders.
- Identify value engineering opportunities and cost-saving alternatives.
- Maintain and update estimating tools, databases, and vendor pricing.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client consultations as needed.
- Track and analyze historical data for continuous improvement in estimating accuracy.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years of experience in estimating building automation or controls systems.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical systems, and BAS technologies (e.g., BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks).
- Proficiency in estimating software and tools (e.g., Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Excel).
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Familiarity with industry standards and codes (e.g., ASHRAE, NEC).
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with major BAS platforms (e.g., Siemens, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Schneider Electric).
- Understanding of data center controls or mission-critical environments.
- Project management or field experience in BAS installation or commissioning.
