Chicagoland | Resident Engineer
We are partnering with a well-established civil engineering firm in the western Chicago suburbs that is seeking an experienced Resident Engineer to lead roadway and transportation construction projects across the Chicago metro area.
- Serve as Resident Engineer on IDOT and IDOT‑administered local agency roadway projects
- Lead construction projects from start to finish, including utilities, traffic staging, signals, and roadway paving (PCC/HMA)
- Manage inspection teams and provide leadership, guidance, and training
- Act as the primary liaison with clients, contractors, and the public
- Oversee project schedules, budgets, staffing, and work assignments
- Lead weekly progress meetings and help resolve field, design, and scheduling issues
- Document quantities in CMMS and prepare pay estimates and change orders
- Manage project closeout and resolve material deficiencies
- Travel to job sites throughout the Chicago metro area (company vehicle provided)
What They're Looking For
- BS in Civil Engineering (required)
- PE license in Illinois or ability to obtain within 1-2 years
- 5+ years of professional experience
- 2+ years as a lead Resident Engineer on IDOT or IDOT‑administered projects
- IDOT Documentation Certification
- Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills
