Position Summary
Seeking a highly motivated Construction Project Inspector to provide field inspection and construction oversight for transportation infrastructure projects throughout Central Ohio. This role will be responsible for monitoring contractor operations, ensuring compliance with project specifications, documenting construction activities, and maintaining quality standards on roadway, bridge, utility, and transportation improvement projects.
The ideal candidate will have experience with ODOT construction inspection procedures and possess required ODOT inspector certifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform construction inspection and field observation on transportation infrastructure projects.
- Monitor contractor activities to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, permits, and contract requirements.
- Inspect roadway, bridge, drainage, utility, traffic control, and related construction activities.
- Maintain detailed project records, daily reports, quantity calculations, and construction documentation.
- Review materials testing results and verify compliance with project requirements.
- Coordinate with contractors, project managers, engineers, and public agencies to address construction issues.
- Attend project meetings and provide updates on construction progress and field conditions.
- Identify and document deficiencies, non-conforming work, and potential project risks.
- Verify contractor pay quantities and assist with project closeout documentation.
- Ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with ODOT standards.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
- Experience inspecting transportation, roadway, bridge, or infrastructure construction projects.
- ODOT Prequalification Level 1 (P1) Inspector certification required.
- ODOT Prequalification Level 2 (P2) Inspector certification required.
- Strong understanding of ODOT construction specifications, standards, and procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Experience preparing field documentation, daily reports, and quantity calculations.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites throughout the region.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional ODOT certifications and technical inspections experience.
- Experience with roadway reconstruction, bridge rehabilitation, utility relocation, and traffic maintenance projects.
- Familiarity with construction management and project documentation software.
- Knowledge of materials testing and quality assurance procedures.
- Experience working on federally funded transportation projects.
