Overview
We are seeking a Controls Engineer to support mission‑critical operations within our Dallas‑based data centers. This role focuses on designing, maintaining, and optimizing the control systems that keep power, cooling, and environmental infrastructure running reliably-24/7. You will work closely with facilities, operations, and engineering teams to ensure maximum uptime, safety, and efficiency across multiple data center sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, program, and maintain PLC, BAS/BMS, and EPMS systems for data center environments.
- Support and optimize control strategies for HVAC, CRAC/CRAH units, chillers, cooling towers, and power distribution systems.
- Develop and maintain control system documentation, wiring diagrams, logic narratives, and sequence of operations.
- Perform troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, and corrective actions for control system issues impacting data center uptime.
- Coordinate system upgrades, commissioning activities, and maintenance with vendors and contractors.
- Ensure all control systems meet data center reliability standards, including redundancy, failover, and alerting configurations.
- Integrate monitoring points into BMS/EPMS dashboards, ensuring accurate alarms, trends, and reporting.
- Participate in site acceptance testing (SAT/FAT) for new builds, expansions, and major equipment installations.
- Follow strict safety, compliance, and operational protocols, including change management and documentation standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls/Automation, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in controls engineering, preferably in data centers, mission‑critical facilities, or industrial automation.
- Proficiency with PLC platforms (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and BAS systems (e.g., Johnson Controls, Siemens, Schneider).
- Understanding of data center electrical infrastructure: UPS, switchgear, generators, PDUs, RPPs.
- Experience with HVAC controls and industrial communication protocols (BACnet, Modbus, EtherNet/IP).
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics, control drawings, P&IDs, and mechanical plans.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills in high‑stakes, uptime‑critical environments.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with EPMS and energy monitoring platforms.
- Familiarity with Tier III/Tier IV data center design principles.
- Knowledge of ASHRAE, NFPA, NEC, and mission‑critical compliance standards.
- Experience with trending, analytics, and control system optimization for efficiency and thermal management.
Location & Work Environment
- Based in Dallas, TX, supporting one or more local data center campuses.
- On‑site position with occasional on‑call responsibilities for critical events.
- Some travel may be required for commissioning, training, or multi‑site support.
