Controls Engineer

We're looking for a driven and detail-focused Controls Engineer to join our Industrial Automation team. In this role, you'll be responsible for developing, programming, and supporting control systems used in automated equipment, production lines, robotic systems, and custom-built machinery.

You'll work alongside cross-functional teams including mechanical engineering, project management, electrical, and fabrication to ensure systems are built, tested, and delivered to a high standard.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement control system software for automated machinery and production systems
  • Program, test, and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, vision systems, and industrial communication networks
  • Support the integration of robotics, automation components, and manufacturing equipment
  • Assist with system commissioning, startup, and on-site technical support when required
  • Identify and resolve control system issues during build, testing, and production phases
  • Work closely with engineering and build teams throughout machine assembly and installation
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including revisions and backups
  • Contribute to ongoing improvements to enhance system performance, efficiency, and reliability

Required Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Controls Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in controls engineering or industrial automation
  • Hands-on experience with PLC and HMI programming (e.g. Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent)
  • Solid understanding of industrial control systems and electrical troubleshooting
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings

Preferred Experience

  • Exposure to robotics, pneumatics, and machine vision systems
  • Familiarity with industrial protocols such as EtherNet/IP, Modbus, or PROFINET
  • Experience with Ignition HMI / SCADA platforms
  • Knowledge of motion control systems, including servos and VFDs
  • Involvement in equipment commissioning and system startup

  • Occasional travel for installation, commissioning, and customer support activities
  • A mix of design/programming work and hands-on involvement on the shop floor
