Forensic Engineer

Our client is a well-established engineering consulting firm specializing in forensic investigations and expert services across the built environment. They partner with legal teams, insurers, and property owners to analyze failures, determine root causes, and provide defensible engineering conclusions.
With a strong reputation in the industry, the firm offers exposure to high-impact, technically challenging projects across structural, civil, and construction-related disciplines. Their Los Angeles team is growing and looking to add an early-career to mid-level engineer who is eager to build a long-term career in forensic engineering.

About the Role

This role is ideal for an engineer with 1-8 years of experience who has an interest (or prior exposure) in forensic engineering. You will support and lead investigations into structural and construction-related failures, conduct site inspections, and contribute to technical reporting used in legal and insurance contexts.
You will work alongside experienced experts and have a clear pathway toward licensure and technical specialization.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field investigations of structural and building system failures
  • Analyze construction defects, material performance, and damage mechanisms
  • Perform engineering calculations and evaluate design/construction documents
  • Prepare detailed, client-ready reports outlining findings and conclusions
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and support expert witness activities
  • Participate in client meetings, site inspections, and project scoping
  • Maintain strong documentation and adhere to deadlines in a litigation-driven environment

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or related Engineering discipline
  • 1-8 years of relevant engineering experience
  • EIT certification required; PE license preferred or in progress
  • Prior forensic engineering experience strongly preferred (failures, inspections, or expert work)
  • Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork, including site inspections in varied conditions
  • Self-motivated with an interest in investigative engineering work
