Base Salary: $135,000- $185,000 + Bonus(s)
A well‑established heavy civil General Contractor in the Seattle area is seeking an experienced Estimator to support preconstruction efforts across transportation, utilities, public works, and infrastructure projects. This individual will play a key role in evaluating bid opportunities, developing accurate cost estimates, and ensuring competitive, comprehensive proposals for major civil projects throughout the region.
About the Role
The Heavy Civil Estimator will prepare quantity take‑offs, analyze drawings and specifications, solicit and level subcontractor bids, and compile complete estimates for both negotiated and hard‑bid pursuits. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a detail‑driven environment and brings strong technical understanding of civil scopes and construction methodologies.
Experience Needed
- 3-7+ years of experience in heavy civil estimating (earthwork, utilities, structures, site development, roadways, or water/wastewater)
- Experience preparing estimates for WSDOT, city, county, or public‑works projects
- Proficient with civil quantity take‑offs, production rates, cost breakdowns, and bid formats
- Experience reviewing plans, specifications, and addenda
- Ability to solicit, level, and negotiate subcontractor and supplier bids
- Familiarity with alternate delivery estimating (GC/CM, CM/GC, design‑build) is a plus
Qualifications Needed
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred but not required)
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills
- Proficiency with estimating software (HCSS HeavyBid, Agtek, Bluebeam, or similar)
- Ability to interpret civil plans, details, and geotechnical reports
- Strong communication skills and ability to work closely with project managers and field leadership
- Detail‑oriented with strong organizational habits and ability to meet deadlines
- High level of integrity and commitment to accuracy
