Junior Air Quality Consultant

A client is seeking a motivated Junior Air Quality Consultant to support regulatory, technical, and environmental compliance projects in the Albuquerque region. This entry‑level to early‑career role is ideal for candidates interested in air quality permitting, emissions analysis, and environmental consulting for industrial, infrastructure, and energy-related projects. You will work closely with senior staff, contribute to technical deliverables, and gain exposure to agency coordination and client-facing work.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing air quality permit applications, technical reports, and regulatory documentation for federal, state, and local agencies.
  • Conduct data collection, emissions calculations, and air quality modeling under the direction of senior consultants.
  • Support environmental compliance reviews, site assessments, and fieldwork as needed.
  • Contribute to NEPA-related air quality analyses and environmental impact documentation.
  • Help track regulatory requirements and changes relevant to client operations.
  • Participate in internal and external project meetings, taking notes and supporting follow-up actions.
  • Assist with project coordination, including schedules, task tracking, and document management.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality, timely project deliverables.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Atmospheric Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in air quality, permitting, environmental consulting, or similar fields.
  • Familiarity with air emissions calculations, regulatory frameworks (e.g., Clean Air Act)
  • Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a consulting environment.
  • Willingness to travel locally or regionally for field assignments (typically <10-20%).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with emissions modeling tools (e.g., AERMOD, AP-42 factors)
  • Internship or prior work experience in environmental permitting or air quality.
  • Familiarity with state-level environmental regulatory agencies (e.g., New Mexico Environment Department).
  • Basic understanding of industrial processes or energy-sector operations.
