Power Systems Studies Engineer

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Power Systems Electrical Engineer to support a diverse range of energy and infrastructure projects. This role involves performing advanced electrical studies, developing system models, and contributing to the design and analysis of commercial, industrial, and generation facilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in power systems engineering, a collaborative mindset, and a desire to grow within a dynamic technical environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed power system studies including:
    • Load Flow and Reactive Power Analysis
    • Short Circuit, Protective Device Coordination, and Arc Flash studies
    • Transient Stability and Dynamic Simulation studies
    • Harmonic Analysis and Power Quality assessments
  • Develop and validate electrical system models using industry-standard software such as ETAP, PSS/E, PSCAD, WinIGS, or CDEGS.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to produce electrical calculations, single-line diagrams, and other design documentation.
  • Support the development of technical reports, specifications, and construction documents for a variety of project types.
  • Participate in the review and quality assurance of engineering deliverables to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and best practices.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and updates to standards such as NEC, IEEE, and NESC.
  • Assist in project planning, scheduling, and coordination across multiple concurrent assignments.
  • Engage in continuous learning and professional development within the power and energy sector.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in electrical engineering, preferably within consulting, EPC, or utility environments.
  • Proficiency with power system analysis tools such as ETAP, PSS/E, PSCAD, WinIGS, or CDEGS.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar CAD software for electrical design and drafting.
  • Solid understanding of electrical engineering principles, including system protection, grounding, and equipment specification.
  • Knowledge of NEC, IEEE, and other relevant standards; willingness to stay updated with revisions and new developments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or active pursuit of licensure is highly desirable.

  • Exposure to utility interconnection processes and regulatory frameworks.
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers and contribute to team development.
