Senior Project Manager / Practice Leader - Land Development
Overview
A leading multidisciplinary engineering and consulting firm is seeking a motivated, entrepreneurial Senior Project Manager / Practice Leader - Land Development to establish and grow a high-performing land development practice.
This role blends technical delivery, client leadership, and business development, offering the opportunity to drive market growth, build a team, and deliver impactful site development projects. The ideal candidate is a proven leader with strong industry relationships and a passion for shaping communities.
Responsibilities
Practice Leadership & Growth
- Lead the strategic development and expansion of the land development practice, including revenue growth and profitability
- Develop and execute a business plan targeting key sectors such as residential, commercial, mixed-use, and industrial development
- Drive business development activities, including client outreach, proposal development, and pursuit strategy
- Establish a strong presence in the market, positioning the practice as a trusted partner
Client & Project Management
- Build and maintain relationships with developers, private clients, and public-sector stakeholders
- Serve as Project Manager or Project Director on complex land development projects
- Oversee all aspects of project delivery, ensuring quality, budget, and schedule performance
- Lead client meetings, presentations, and contract negotiations
- Provide strategic advice and innovative solutions to clients
Technical Expertise - Land Development
- Lead the design and delivery of:
- Site planning and layout
- Grading and drainage systems
- Stormwater management solutions
- Utility infrastructure (water, wastewater, etc.)
- Permitting and regulatory approvals
- Ensure high technical standards through QA/QC processes
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant regulations and industry practices
Team Leadership & Development
- Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing engineering team
- Provide leadership, coaching, and career development support to staff
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability
- Support resource planning, staffing, and performance management
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field (Master's preferred)
- Professional Engineer (PE) or equivalent chartership required
- Extensive experience (typically 10+ years) in land development engineering
- Proven success in business development and client relationship management
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and grow a practice or service line
- Strong technical knowledge of site development, permitting, and delivery processes
- Excellent communication, leadership, and commercial skills
