About the Opportunity
On behalf of our client, a well-established and respected Heavy Civil Contractor in the Pacific Northwest, we are seeking an experienced Safety Director to lead and elevate their safety program. This firm specializes in large-scale infrastructure projects including highways, bridges, utilities, and site development. The ideal candidate will bring a proactive, hands-on approach to safety leadership and a deep understanding of the complexities of heavy civil construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and oversee company-wide safety programs and initiatives.
- Conduct regular job site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with OSHA, WISHA, and internal safety standards.
- Lead investigations of incidents and near-misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Deliver safety training and mentorship to field personnel and management teams.
- Maintain accurate safety records, reports, and documentation.
- Collaborate with project teams to integrate safety planning into all phases of construction.
Experience Required
- Minimum of 7 years of safety leadership experience in heavy civil construction.
- Demonstrated success managing safety programs on complex infrastructure projects.
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA, WISHA, and other applicable safety regulations.
- Strong background in incident investigation and risk mitigation.
- Experience working with subcontractors and cross-functional teams.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician) certification preferred.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in safety management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to job sites throughout the region.
