A well-established private sector client is actively seeking a highly experienced and motivated Project Manager to join their growing team in Sacramento County, California. This is a permanent, full-time position that offers the unique chance to work in close partnership with a local municipality, providing essential staff augmentation support. Position Overview
As a Project Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing a variety of public works and infrastructure projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with all applicable regulations. You will serve as a critical liaison between city staff, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders, facilitating clear communication and efficient project execution.
This role is ideal for a professional who is not only technically proficient but also excels in leadership, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement. Key Responsibilities
- Project Leadership & Oversight: Manage the planning, design, and implementation of public works projects, including roadways, utilities, drainage systems, and municipal facilities.
- Stakeholder Coordination: Act as a primary point of contact between city staff, engineering teams, contractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure alignment and transparency throughout the project lifecycle.
- Documentation & Reporting: Prepare comprehensive city council staff reports, technical support, project updates, and other essential documentation required for project approvals and public communication.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all projects adhere to local, state, and federal regulations, including environmental, safety, and permitting requirements.
- Budget & Schedule Management: Monitor project budgets and timelines, proactively identifying and addressing potential risks or delays.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including planners, engineers, and administrative staff, to deliver high-quality outcomes.
- Community Engagement: Support public outreach efforts, attend community meetings, and respond to inquiries from residents and stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- Experience: A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in civil engineering, public works, and/or project management, with a strong track record of successful project delivery.
- Licensure: Must hold an active Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of California.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of engineering principles, construction practices, and project management methodologies.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to diverse audiences.
- Familiarity with Procedures: Demonstrated understanding of local, state, and federal procedures, including Caltrans standards, CEQA/NEPA processes, and public procurement practices.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable:
- Experience working directly with or for municipal agencies in California.
- Familiarity with Sacramento County public works standards and procedures.
- Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, or similar tools).
- Experience with grant writing and funding acquisition for public infrastructure projects.
